Objective To characterize the morphology of the glass stab injury.
Methods Three fragments(0.31 cm thick) of broken beer bottle and three sharp fragments(0.29 cm thick) of flat glass were used to stab pig’s skin tissue at different angle three times. The injuries were observed and measured.
Results Based on overall shape of injury, a total of 198 injuries can be divided into five types, namely, &ldquo

”type, “

” type, “

” type, “

”type and “一”type. The injuries stabbed at different angle displayed differences shape. Among them, the first four types accounted for about 93% of the total. And these types all have a distinct wound in the middle of the injury, and the wound’s direction is vertical to the direction of the overall injury. For injuries stabbed with broken beer bottles, the length of the vertical wound is 0.31±0.01cm(x±s), and the length of the vertical wound caused by sharp fragments of flat glass, it is 0.29±0.01cm(x±s).
Conclusion The vertical wound in the middle of the overall injury is the most typical morphology of the glass stab injury, and the length of the vertical wound is consistent with the thickness of the glass fragment.
