Distinguishing False Methamphentamine Using SEM/EDS and XRD

Abstract
we were asked to determine six packs of samples which were suspicious of crystal methamphetamine or “ice”. All samples were shown white crystals under microscope, similar to “ice” and could not be analyzed by GC/MS, so we conducted elemental analysis using scanning electron microscope/energy dispersive spectrometry first and then determined the chemical components using X-ray diffraction. Five packs were potassium aluminum sulfate and one pack was sucrose.
在司法物证检验中,通常采用扫描电镜/X射线能谱仪自动检测枪击案件中的射击残留物.但在检出的可疑颗粒物中,经常遇到硫(S)、锑(Sb)元素含量偏低的情况,用X射线能谱仪很难认定该颗粒物就是射击残留物.本文采用了扫描电镜/X射线能谱仪/X射线波谱仪组合方法,能检测出射击残留物中的S和Sb元素,弥补了X射线能谱仪的不足.这种组合形式,能够在微量物证检验工作中发挥很好的作用. Abstract: In judicial material evidence testing,the SEM/X-ray EDS is usually used for the detection of shooting residues from a gun shooting case.But if the contents of S and Sb elements in suspicious particles are too low to be detected by X-ray EDS,it is very difficult to recognize that these particles are shooting resides.In this paper,a combined SEM/X-ray EDS/X-ray EDW method is used to analyze the shooting residuces.The new method is able to identify S and Sb elements and compensate the shortcomings of X-ray EDS.This method can play an important role in testing trace material evidence.
