The methods used in forensic science laboratory directly impact the results of evidence analysis, so the method management is one of the most important parts of quality assurance system. The method validation and standard operation procedure are useful ways that lets forensic laboratories use scientific and reliable methods and obtain consistent result. The forensic science laboratories that run an efficiency quality assurance system should employ the methods that have been validated internally in the laboratory, and build the laboratorys methods SOPs for all validated methods.

To determine the shooting sequence of bullet shot by model 79 microtommy gun, we took samples of live firing bullets and extended our observation into the marks of both bullets and cartridge cases, and we use statistic analysis and logic inclusion to find trace characteristics related to the shotting sequence. We found that dotimprints on cartridge case shoulder, pressing and scraping prints on the edge of cartridge case bottom and marks on the hook of cartridgecaseextractor are all related to the shooting sequence. We concluded that both the appearance of dotimprint, its position and the depressed degree of pressing and scraping prints and marks are credible evidence to infer the cartridge case sequence of model 79 microtommy gun.

Determination of papers is ordinary in forensic science. As usual,we always check it up with traditional methods (for example fibre analysis、appearance determination and so on) . Now we can use FTIR do it , besides this method can distinguish some similitude papers.

ObjectiveTo explore the application value of Y-STR loci in criminal cases. MethodYSTR loci systems were apply to the cases in forensic science by using fluorescein labelling multiplex-polymerase PCR technique. ResultsYSTR loci had particular value, especially in the case samples mixed by male and female, or male and male, sexual identification and paternity testing. ConclusionYSTR loci are suitable for forensic personal identification and paternity testing, but should be careful of various peculiar examples in application.

ObjectiveOne method of combustible support in the arson scene is presented in the text. MethodThe volatile gas is absorbed in the burning leftover concentrate by the minitype of solid extraction apparatus, is been qualitative analysis using the gas chromatographic instrument. ResultIn all kind of medium, combustible supports, such as gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil, the better way of category identified is which combines minitype of solid extraction apparatus and gas chromatographic instrument. ConclusionThe means is simple, convenient and practical.

ObjectiveTo establish the method of screening mtDNA heteroplasmy by DHPLC, and to investigate the frequency of mtDNA heteroplasmy in control region within multiple tissues of the same individual, it is provided reference by use of mtDNA technology in forensic community. MethodSelect blood, heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, pancreas, brain, muscle, skin, rib, nail and hair of 18 individuals, screening the heteroplasmyic samples by DHPLC,and confirm by direct sequencing. Result9 heteroplasmic individuals were detected, the frequency of heteroplasmy is highest in muscle tissue. ConclusionIt is important to take into account mtDNA heteroplasmy in forensic applied field.

ObjectiveTo study the range of common toxicoids and drags by statistical method. MethodThis paper analyzed the cases of toxicoids and drags in forensic science institute of Tianjin city from 1994 to 2003 by statistical method. ResultThe range of common toxicoids and drags were reduced to 10 groups in Tianjin city. ConclusionThese results and methods would be a reference for other cities to study the range of common toxicoids and drags.
