Objective To observe the morphological characteristics of the frontal sinuses in Han ethnic group and develop the parameters of the frontal sinuses applied to personal identification. Methods The frontal sinuses were analyzed using Adobe ImageReady software. A total of 24 parameters was observed, and each parameter of the frontal sinus was classified using the code number according to its variation, and the patterns of the frontal sinus were described and classified using the combined code. Results 227 samples, and 94 samples with bilateral fontal sinuses and more than one arcade of the upper border of the unilateral frontal sinus were analyzed. The diversities and the discrimination probabilities of the parameters ranged from 0022 to 0901, and the cumulative discrimination probability was 0992Conclusions These parameters of the frontal sinus that were variability to different persons could be applied to personal identification.

Objective To study the space distribution and splashing height of glass rain and provide basis for collecting glass evidence and analyzing crimescene. Method Using the selfmade experimental apparatus, a simulated test of hitting glass with a hammer in the usual manner was carried out and the glass fragments on the ground and the position of the simulated suspect were collected. The count, size and distribution of glass fragment were analyzed statistically and compared with that of theoretical calculation. Results The result showed that, at the distance of 05m apart from the window, the splash height of small glass fragment was about 027m over its origin position on the window, the smaller fragments splashed farther compared with biger fragments. Conclusion The suspects head and the upper part of the body are important aero for glass fragment collection and should not be ignored during crime scene investigation.

Objective To study endothelin level of animal organs after the death at different times of different seasons. Methods The animals were killed in different seasons, the part of the thyroid, heart, kidney and muscle was sampled in 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h, 18h, 24h, 36h and 72h respectively. The level of endothelin was determined by RIA method. Results The results showed that the level of endothelin varied with organs and seasons. Conclusion Endothelin level of organs reduced with the extended time of death.

Objective To explore the common species of sarcosaphagous flies and their living activity in Sanmenxia area and the value in the forensic medicine practice. Methods Sarcosaphagous flies succession laws and living habits on the rabbit carcasses from midJuly to midOctober were observed. Results During the period, there are 13 main species belonged to 3 families and 8 genera from Diptera which appeared on the rabbit carcasses, including Musca d. vicina,M.sorbens sorbens,Muscina stabulans,Fannia prisca,Ophyra chalcogaster,Orthellia coerulea of Mescidae;Chrsomya megacephala,Lucilia sericata,L. illustria,Aldrichina grahami of Calliphoridae;Boettcherisca peregrina,Parasarcophaga knabi,Bellieria melanura of Sarcophagidae. The preliminary result shows that the succession laws of these flies in the rabbit carcasses are quite obvious during the period. Conclusion In Sanmenxia area the common species of sarcosaphagous flies have a regular living habits, therefore, it can be helpful in the practice of forensic medicine. 

An efficient and noninvasive method consisting of simple sampling, solid phase microextraction (SPME) and GC/MS (SIM) detecting was developed to analyze volatile organic emanations from the skin of human arms. The detected emanations mainly consisted of: alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters. The result showed that alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters can be used as biomarkers for individual identification.

Objective To study the relationship between blood alcohol concentrations(BAC)and time of drinking. Method BAC of drivers was measured every 30 minutes after they drank a bottle of beer and the timecourse profile of BAC was plotted. Results The timecourse of bloodalcohol curves indicated that the BAC is linear with the time of drinking. Conclusion The relationship of BAC and time of drinking can be used as reference for traffic accident investigation.
