Objective To explore the common species of sarcosaphagous flies and their living activity in Sanmenxia area and the value in the forensic medicine practice. Methods Sarcosaphagous flies succession laws and living habits on the rabbit carcasses from midJuly to midOctober were observed. Results During the period, there are 13 main species belonged to 3 families and 8 genera from Diptera which appeared on the rabbit carcasses,including Musca d. vicina,M.sorbens sorbens,Muscina stabulans,Fannia prisca,Ophyra chalcogaster,Orthellia coerulea of Mescidae;Chrsomya megacephala,Lucilia sericata,L. illustria,Aldrichina grahami of Calliphoridae;Boettcherisca peregrina,Parasarcophaga knabi,Bellieria melanura of Sarcophagidae.The preliminary result shows that the succession laws of these flies in the rabbit carcasses are quite obvious during the period. Conclusion In Sanmenxia area the common species of sarcosaphagous flies have a regular living habits,therefore, it can be helpful in the practice of forensic medicine.
