Forensic evidence is one of the most important means of reconstructing crime fact in criminal investigation and court procedure. The time information provided by forensic examination is the key element in the reconstruction. This paper outlines the forensic techniques and applications of time information, and suggests a theoretical model of forensic time information based on the parameters of time point, time length, and time sequence.

Objective To investigate the effects of Cocaine on the function of mouse peritoneal macrophages in vitro. Methods The single cell suspension of murine peritoneal macrophages was prepared under sterile condition. Different concentrations of Cocaine were added to the normal or LPS-activited peritoneal macrophages. The cell proliferation of macrophages was measured by MTT assay. Concentrations of TNF-α in supernatants were determined by using quantitative sandwich enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. The activities of IL-1 were detected by biological assays. Results Compared with those of the normal control groups, the LPS-induced peritoneal macrophages proliferative reactions was inhibited when the cells were exposed to Cocaine ranging from 10μg/mL to 100μg/mL. The productions of TNF-α and IL-1 in supernatants were all reduced markedly(P﹤0.01).Conclusion Cocaine can inhibit the mouse peritoneal macrophages function in vitro.

Objective To introduce a new method for developing latent fingerprints on paper. Methods The fingerprints were treated by special infrared thermal mapping technique and developed with Thermal Fingerprint Developer designed by Foster & Freeman Ltd.Results The latent fingerprints exhibited photoluminescence under light of 450 nm -510 nm by heating a short time. After heating longer time, the fingerprints became dark brown under the natural light. Under the light of 254 nm,both fresh and aged fingerprints could be developed. Conclusion This method has great potential as a safe,simple,low-cost,chemical-free method for fingerprints detection.

Objective To introduce a new method to differentiate black ballpoint pen writing. Methods Black ballpoint pen writing samples was scanned at 600dpi and saved as tiff files, and the images were processed with Lab color mode in Photoshop CS3.Results 61.67% samples can be differentiated by the Lab mode. Conclusion The handwritings of black ballpoint pens can be differentiated by this method.

Objective To establish an effective method for recovering the original shape of fracture edges on PVC-tapes.Methods The fracture edges are heated by water, and the optimum temperature and heat time were determined through experiments. Results After heat treatment, the edges deformation degree of PVC-tapes decrease apparently. Conclusion The method established in this article can be used to recover the original shape of fracture edges on PVC-tapes effectively and increase the validity of the physical match for tape examination.

In this paper, a GC/MS method for analysis of paint thinner was established and paint thinner samples collected in Beijing market were analyzed. The results showed that all paint thinner samples can be classified into four categories according to their chemical composition. This method can be used for determination of paint thinner in fire residues.

Particles in skin traumatized by hammer were collected with filter paper and cotton swab. The elements of the particles were analyzed and compared with the components of the hammer by using SEM/EDS. The results indicated that metal particles in traumatized skin can be collected with both filter paper method and cotton swab method and determined with SEM/EDS.

Acromial end and medial side of clavicle changes with age in some regularity. Especially the ossification status of the medial clavicular epiphysis is of great value for forensic age estimation less than 30 years. Domestic and foreign forensic anthropologists have performed a large number of studies on gross anatomy and imaging characteristics of collarbone and accumulated a wealth of research and applied basic. The application of CT and MRI and other new imaging technologies is expected to improve the accuracy of clavicle age estimation.
