20 brands of printing paper were collected and analyzed by laser abliation—inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). The data was processed by SPSS cluster analysis .The Results showed that the most brands of the printing paper can be distinguished. LA-ICP-MS is an effective means for identification of printing paper.

Objective To investigate variation of species and quantity of diatom in Xiu Lake and Qing He reservoir for analyzing cause of death and determining drowning location. Methods Water in Xiu Lake and Qing He reservoir were sampled at differently spot and time in 2012, and then the diatoms were examined with microscope. Results The species and quantity of diatom in reservoir have varied with differently time and spot. The quantity of diatom near shore and in spring area was minimal. Pennate became dominant species near shore area and centricae became dominant species in the center of the reservoir. Conclusion The species and quantity of diatom in reservoir had complex variation which affected by various factors, we should analyze the Results carefully in forensic identification.

In this study, fingerprints on colored surfaces were developed by cyanoacrylate fuming and then the images were enhanced by vacuum metal deposition. The Results showed that combination of cyanoacrylate fuming and vacuum metal deposition was an effective means to detection latent fingerprints on colored surfaces.

The different amount of ammonium nitrate-based explosives (10g, 15g, 20g, 25g and 30g) packed in plastic bottles were detonated respectively, and the distribution of the residues of plastics bottle were studied. The Results indicated that the amount of explosives can be estimated by the distribution of package residues.

Fingerprints on copy paper, offset paper, thermal paper, kraft paper and newspaper were developed with genipin and ninhydrin respectively and the Results were compared. The Results showed that genipin solvent was effective for fingerprints on thermal paper, but ninhydrin was effective for fingerprints on other four kinds of paper.

In this paper, one of level III features of fingerprint, “hollow ridge” has been studied. The reproducibility “hollow ridge” features was investigated and their discriminative value was analyzed. The Results revealed that “hollow ridge” feature is stable and comparison result can be improved by integrating “hollow ridge” feature in addition to normal features.

In this paper, effect of ink thickness of ballpoint pen stroke on solvent evaporative rate was studied by GC and HPLC. Results revealed that the evaporative rate of benzyl alcohol and Phenoxy alcohol varied with the ink thickness of strokes. Therefore the ink thickness of stroke is an important factor for ink age determination.
